Religious Education

The Gospel Values, drawn from the Beatitudes, are central to life at St Richard’s. They can be seen clearly in the way that we treat each other with restorative practice being at the heart of our behaviour policy. High expectations of, and aspirations for, each other are vital in ensuring that everyone in our school community becomes the absolute best that they can be. As a Catholic school, we aim for everyone to reach their true potential, not only academically, but also spiritually, socially and emotionally.

As a school community our mission to ‘Aspire, Learn, Serve and Grow in Christ’ is at the heart of everything we do!

In all of our classrooms and in the communal areas of our school, you will find our Sacred Spaces. These are special areas used for prayer and collective worship, allowing staff and children to stop and find God wherever they may be.

“We can pray anywhere and at any time.” (Foundation Stage)

The teachings of the Bible and the Church are focussed upon whenever possible. This year we have celebrated the canonisation of Oscar Romero and enjoyed a wonderful Mission Day.

Mission Days – Laudato Si’ & Fairtrade

Recently, we participated in the most amazing Lenten Mission Day in response to Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’. During the day, we learned about how wonderful God’s World is, how we are harming it and how must try to stop this damage. Not only did we make promises to care for God’s Word, but we drew up an Action Plan in answer to Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home and care for our neighbour. This is our first step to achieving the CAFOD ‘Live Simply Award’. Part of ‘living simply’ has also been our focus through working towards becoming a ‘Fair Trade school’.
